Reflecting on my surgery back in June, I am reminded of the powerful word I received Sunday morning. It’s incredible how my healing journey is intertwined with various adaptive equipment, each symbolizing my challenges and resilience. Here’s a glimpse into the tools that have accompanied me on this path:
– Walker: This vital tool for mobility stands as a reminder of the support I needed during recovery. It represents not just physical assistance but also the emotional strength I’ve drawn from those around me.
– TSLO Back Brace: After undergoing surgery to remove four vertebrae due to a tumor and severe stenosis, this brace became essential. It’s a testament to the painful struggles I faced and the steps I’ve taken toward healing.
– Grabber/Reacher: This practical device has empowered me to regain some independence by assisting with my restrictions on bending, twisting, reaching, and lifting. I remember using it to do laundry! I struggled to ask for help! 🤦🏾♀️
– Eliquis: This blood thinner, which I take twice daily, symbolizes my survival after two pulmonary embolisms. Thankfully, those issues are now resolved, marking a significant milestone in my recovery.
– Mitotain: As part of my twice-daily oral chemotherapy regimen aimed at treating adrenaline cortisol carcinoma, Mitotain has shown promise. My last CT scan revealed tumor shrinkage, and I’m looking forward to another scan at the end of April, hopeful for continued progress and trusting in God’s miraculous power.
While I may have to retire my beloved heel collection, I find comfort in knowing I can still walk. My neurosurgeon was amazed that I managed to work and walk while treating my discomfort with over-the-counter medications, especially given how the tumor was compressing my spine. Addressing this issue was a priority for my oncology team.
My praise is a response to everything I have experienced. Although I can’t run, jump, or lift heavy objects like I once did, I’m overcoming these obstacles and feeling stronger every day. This journey has taught me that God has a way of gracefully breaking us down, leading us to a place where we can only depend on Him.
In sharing my story, I hope to inspire others facing their own challenges to find strength in faith and resilience. Healing is a journey, and each step forward is a testament to our inner strength and the support of those we love.
As I look toward the future, I am filled with hope and gratitude, eager to embrace whatever comes next on this incredible journey of healing.
Praise Is What I Do
Song by William Murphy
Come on, song goes like this
Praise is what I do
When I wanna be close to You
I lift my hands in praise (oh, oh, come on)
Praise is who I am (let’s declare it church)
I will praise Him while I can
I’ll bless You at all times (I vow)
I vow to praise You (when you gon’ praise Him church?)
Through the good and the bad
I’ll praise You (whether happy or sad)
Whether happy or sad (I will)
I’ll praise You (thank you Jesus)
In all that I go through (yeah)
Because praise is what I do
‘Cause I owe it all to You
